Note Outline:

You should enjoy discovering what you carried for nine months.

Raising children is a tremendous and awesome responsibility.  Psalm 127:4  As arrows are in the hand of a mighty man, so are children of the youth.

The best gift parents can give their children is to love one another.

The marriage of parents is sowing seeds for their children’s marriages. Heb 13:4

In today's culture, with so many broken families, is it any wonder that we have so many troubled children and children’s families?   Children need a home atmosphere that promotes their well-being:

Is an abiding place of unqualified love. When teens feel secure in their parents' love, they will have the confidence to resist the negative influences in our culture. In my opinion, nothing is more important than parental love. The teen wants to feel connected, accepted, and nurtured by parents. Emotional connectedness requires communication. At least one meal a day, and share what is happening in your lives. Do something with your teenager at least once a week.

It is a place of acceptance, affirmation, blessing, and confidence-building. The opposite of acceptance is rejection. Research indicates that almost all violent teenagers feel rejected by their parents. Hostile, cutting, harsh words from parents kill the teenager's spirit. Slapping, shoving, pushing, and beating will almost always produce a rebellious teenager. Be encouraging, look for the positive things done and said, and commend them.

It is a place of godly training- Luke 2:52. Train a child in the way he should go and he will not depart. Prov. 22:6   Deuteronomy 6. It is a school of learning about life (wheel of life) and to be self-learners. Solid Teaching helps the child grow to a wise adult – 22:15

It is a place where godliness is modeled. Children tend to do what they see, not hear.

Is a place of good governance- authority, hierarchy, and discipline are respected; Parental respect and obedience (1 Tim 3:4 and 12)

It is a laboratory for work and responsibility. Wash clothing, gardening, cooking, etc

Is a place of discipline and accountability

It is a safe place of provision and a haven of protection. – 23:13 Prayer Coverage

    Pray for their protection

    Pray for their future mate

    Pray for their calling

That helps them keep their parents from embarrassment Prov 29:15

That recognizes the child’s stage of development

 That honors God

That allows them to be relevant to their generation and benefit it. Charles Handy says that the paradox of age is that every generation expects the next to be like it, but it does not want to be like the previous. To a different generation, it's better to give inspiration, wisdom, principles, responsibility/freedom, and example of Godly life than to prescribe methods.

Isaiah 44:3-5  Isa 44:3 For I will pour water upon him that is thirsty, and floods upon the dry ground: I will pour my spirit upon thy seed, and my blessing upon thine offspring: Isa 44:4 And they shall spring up as among the grass, as willows by the water courses. Isa 44:5 One shall say, I am the LORD's; and another shall call himself by the name of Jacob; and another shall subscribe with his hand unto the LORD, and surname himself by the name of Israel.

Psalm 112:1  Praise ye the LORD. Blessed is the man that feareth the LORD, that delighteth greatly in his commandments.  Psalm 112:2  His seed shall be mighty upon earth: the generation of the upright shall be blessed.
